Being an emissary only suited those, who could travel without any problems. Many thought that traveling was the easiest part, but it definitely wasn't. Anyone could be taught to become a diplomat, but if one cannot travel well, they might as well have cursed their life for eternity.
Thankfully, I wasn't one of those. I had no seasickness to conquer, no crankiness to subdue (I have enough self realization that I am always cranky), no tiredness to get over with. Lucky, I know.
But of course, there is always more playing in the fields. Finding a place is hard, finding food to eat is hard, finding a gem in the city full of boring things is hard. I have gone and talked to the locals and the royals, and maybe my experience can help you next time you go travel.
I don't help often, so I'd suggest taking up the offer.
The capital of Adarlan, Rifthold is a famous place for those who wish to make a name for themselves. Since it is a capital, there is not much scenery to enjoy, but there are of course, other things!
One can enter the city through the five gates spread out through the four directions, well protected by huge, white walls. With that, the Avery River flows through the city, which also happens to be the main source of water to every home and estate. The plain region is lined with apartments and houses, and streets zigzags through them all. The harbor, on the other hand, seem to be much like a small unofficial port in itself, seeing that some sort of business always seems to be happening there.
The weather in Rifthold always fluctuates, from cold to windy to hot to rainy. Overall, it is a perfect place to both live and visit!
The Rifthold is made up of equal parts of good and bad, light and dark, and we will tell you both.
The good, includes the palace itself. The Glass Palace does not allow the common folks to enter, unless of course, you want to be in the dungeons, but Stone Palace is a common home for most of the adventurers. Relic Hall, or even the Athenaeum in the Scholars District is an amazing place for history buffs as well. Further along the line, the Bell Tower is opened during the first twilight to the last, and you can find an magnificient view of the entire city from there!
Now, the bad part. Or maybe in a different perspective, it could be the fun part?
The slums have an unforgettable odor that you wish you could forget, but for those looking for a fight should give it a visit and ask a few appropriate questions. I know I am being Crypt-ic, but I have already told you more than what should be told.
The capital city is often what the entire kingdom is represented from, and so it would not be wrong to say that Rifthold can be luxurious to those who can afford it. Inns ranging for as less as 50 gold coins a night to 4000 gold coins for the same duration can be found, and it is, therefore, a matter of which location should you choose to find an accomodation in.
For the food, any street food is your best choice, no matter how unhealthy. Everything, ranging from bakery to confectionary to restaurants to street vendors, will not disappoint you at all. You can also find food from different kingdoms right there as well, if you are the one to enjoy the meals that taste like home wherever you go.
You can go in and out of the city at just about anytime, although there is pretty strict inspection for new people. If you are okay with sea faring, the ships drop off travellers at the Avery Harbor, from where you can enter the city quite easily. Or of course, you can use the five gates, either by horses or carriage, as it suits you!
That would be all for the day! I hope I have helped you out in gaining the best experience in traveling.
