A Thoughtful Offering
Lidia Cervos

Spy-Breaker, The Hind, Agent of Ophion, amd potential descendent of Mala Fire-Bringer. Allow me to introduce Agent Daybright, Lidia Cervos.

Who is Lidia Cervos?

Background

Lidia Cervos, a name that once brought a shiver of fear to many living in Pangera or Lunathion. She has been given many names over her long life span but is most well known as The Hind. As a deer shifter Lidia has the ability to transform herself into a doe but it is noted that her shifted form is much different than most deer shifter, perhaps because of her parentage? She is half-witch on her mother's side as the eldest daughter of the former Witch Queen Hecuba Enador. Though she shares very little similarities with her younger sister Hypaxia. In her early twenties she made The Drop into immortality and began working in Sandriel's triarii, though it is to be noted that she reported directly to the Asteri.

Her Children

In her thirties Lidia was called upon by her unnamed father to participate in a fertility ritual with another male. Both her identity and the identity of the male were hidden from one another and Lidia did end up pregnant from this encounter. However, she feared what Pollux, the male whom she was enduring relations with in Sandriel's triarii, or her higher ups might do with said child causing her to flee under the guise of being kidnapped. She gave birth to twins Brannon and Actaeon. Keep note of her eldest twin's name as we'll be circling back to that in just a moment. Lidia did not end up keeping full custody of her sons though as in exchange for them being safe she became a double agent for the rebellion against the Asteri. Her children were adopted by a couple aboard the Ocean Queen's submerged ship, The Depth Charger.

The Hind Theories

Most Popular Theory: Galathnyius Blood

In the third book of the Crescent City installment, House of Shadow and Blood, we learn alongside our main cast of characters that the Asteri have put a parasite in the waters of Midgard to dull down the innate powers in the citizens to keep them from becoming too strong and overthrowing them. Hypaxia manages to create a small batch of cures for this parasite and when Lidia Cervos takes this cure it unlocks a strong magical ability over fire. However, it is to be noted that Lidia appeared to have at least a slight control over fire even before consuming this cure as she does put out the Autumn King's own flames. It takes much concentration on her part before the cure but the ability is in fact there. Now I might not have the most intensive knowledge on Throne of Glass lore but I do seem to recall there being a certain fae king with fire magic that created flaming stags. Who was that again? OH YEAH THE DUDE SHE NAMED HER SON AFTER!!!! I mean there are times when Sarah implies things and then leaves them up to the fandom to debate over but she basically hit us over the head with this. Then again I suppose that makes this less of a theory and more of a canon event.

My Personal Theory: Greek Origins

Alright people time to brush up on your Greek and Roman mythology! Heracles was tasked with twelve labors to complete, the third of which was the capture the Hind of Ceryneian also known as the Golden Hind. Do note that Lidia Cervos's deer form is described as having a golden coat so pale it is near silver, golden eyes, and a blaze patch of darker gold fur that seems to resemble a flash of fire. She is also, in her humanoid form, described as being the spitting image of Luna. In greek mythos The Golden Hind is a favored creature of Artemis, goddess of the Moon. This Hind is also larger than a bull deer, with glowing silver antlers, and the ability to breathe fire. Now we know that Sarah pulls from a lot of different sources when creating her series but Crescent City seems to have an especially high Greek and Roman themeing and I really do believe that Lidia Cervos is based off the Ceryneian Hind and either she or her sons are going to have a much deeper connection to Luna than we can imagine.

The Verdict

Ok I'm out of time for this blog but tell me what you guys think! I'd love to hear your thoughts, opinions, and theories on Lidia Cervos, her connection to Mala and potentially her connection to Luna. See you all in the next interation!
