'A Court of Wings and Ruin'

Alright, full disclosure- even the people running our site have people to report to. And sometimes those people give us some super helpful suggestions about what kinds of content we should consider posting to our site to draw more people in. Recently we were provided with some of the top Google searches in relation to our fandom. Most of them are what you'd expect- Feyre, Lucien, Tamlin, the likes. And of course: 'A Court Of Wings And Ruin'.

As we continue our journey throughout the ACOTAR books, it only makes sense that the next book would be A Court of Wings and Ruin (do you think the abbreviation is on purpose to spell out WAR?). This is the book where, in my opinion, we start to see that maybe Feyre isn’t as perfect of a person as she tries to make herself seem. Especially with how she is trying to destroy the Spring Court from within its very walls.

Rosaceli's Take on A Court of Wings and Ruin

Buckle in, it's Rosaceli.

The Best Part of A Court of Wings and Ruin

A Court of Wings and Ruin is also the book with my all time favorite scene from the whole series, easily. Chapter forty-five. The high lords meeting. It is a beautiful train wreck from start to finish and you can’t help but watch in awe (or maybe another word is better suited?)

Truly, I don’t know what the desired or expected outcome would have been anyways. Also the last time all the high lords ended up being together was for Amanartha’s masquerade party, which seems like enough reason not to go through with the current meeting. It might not have ended with everyone being entrapped for fifty years by a vengeful self appointed queen, but it is certainly debatable on whether or not the meeting as a whole is considered successful or beneficial.

But it gave us a great opportunity to get to know the other high lords, which I enjoyed. I would very much like to see more interactions with all the high lords as well as their courts.

Helion, Tarquin, Beron, Tamlin, Rhysand, Kallias, Thesan. All the high lords in one place? What could possibly go wrong. Absolutely everything and in such a short span of time. I love it.

More About the Best Part of ACOWAR

The first sign that this meeting as a whole is going quickly downhill is when Tamlin, being the obnoxious and attention seeking man that he is, starts to sprout off inappropriate things about Feyre. As if she’s not sitting right there.

Then, the chaos continues. If we had our money on which of the bat boys would be the first to start a fight, you’d probably have your money on Cassian and for good reason too. But no! Much to our surprise, Azriel is the one that starts the first physical fight and it is with none other than Eris Vanserra, Lucien’s brother and Beron’s oldest son. I beg for the opportunity to write about Eris, but this is not his time. Maybe soon.

Theories

These are also by Rosaceli, so... buckle up again. It's actually just one singular theory, but a lot about it.

Rhysand is Valg

Now time for theories and concepts of A Court of Wings and Ruin: there was one theory that I found particularly interesting and wanted to discuss.

Rhys is a Valg or at least a descendant of them. I think it is an interesting concept and while I do not fully understand it as a whole, I’ll give the reasoning as to why as well thanks to a handy dandy tik tok that I have found. In A Court of Wings and Ruin on page 425 it says “Except for the one at my side. Rhys was as different from them as humans were to Fae. They forgot it, sometimes—how deep that well of power went. What manner of power Rhys bore.”

Perhaps that difference of power is because he is a descendant of Valg?

Proof

It could also be further reasoning of this with his beast form. On page 645 of  A Court of Wings and Ruin, the description of his beast form is very similar, if not nearly identical, to the true Valg form that Yrene sees of the Valg princess. With the concept of this theory, it continues on to even mention that Rhysand could very well be a descendant of Maeve, who is a Valg too. There has been notice that both Rhysand and Maeve are very similar, such as in their powers.

The final explanation as to why Rhysand is believed to be Valg (but I’m sure there can easily be more reasons found) is that Amren is the one who taught him how to use and master his powers. Amren is speculated to be a Valg princess. Not much is known about her at all and it seems that it may continue to stay that way for a bit longer.

I can’t say one way or another what Rhysand (or even what Amren) is. Although I think it’s interesting and thought provoking that Sarah J Maas’s books leave room for there to be so much thought and discussion.

What are your thoughts in regards to what Rhysand is? Do you think he’s related to anyone we’ve met in the other series?
