Sarah J. Maas... the reason we're all here. In one way or another we have all fallen in love with the worlds she has built. Worlds of Fae and Humans, of Witches and Wyverns, of Angels and Demons. We are all here to escape, just for a little while, into these worlds she has so skillfully crafted. Now, normally with Thoughtful Offerings we tend to make a hypothesis and perkolate on it for a little bit. But today we're going to do something a little different- we're going to look at a few perspectives of why people love Sarah J Maas as much as they do, from some of our key players on this site. So enjoy this love letter to Sarah, for she surely deserves it.
Sarah J. Maas is the author who got me to read again. After hearing amazing stories about ACOTAR, I was just eager to read it.. And oh boy, did I love it. Somehow, Sarah made me cry, laugh, and scream all at the same time. She had me fall in love with characters, and absolutely despise some too. And her plottwists? HELLOOO, literally unmatched. Her writing style is pleasant, easy, and understandable. Her books take you into another world, not just ACOTAR, but ToG and CC as well. I have not been able to put down her books and stop thinking about them, the book hangovers have been real. Sarah is an, for as much as I'm aware, unproblematic author with true heart for her readers and is definitely one of my favourite authors, probably ever.
I love Sarah J Maas because I know exactly what I'm going to get with her writing. There's no sugarcoating it, no hidden pretenses, nothing is hush hush. She writes YA smut and we love her for that. Honestly, I think she would thrive in the fanfiction scene
(They're so real for this)
I don’t read Sarah J Maas and her books because they’re good. I read them because of the world building she has done and because it’s so fascinating in Prythian. If that’s not enough, the fact that the last 100 pages of each book being a fucking rollercoaster should be enough reason to read the books. You never know what’s going to happen. If you think you know what’s happening, wrong. Sarah might throw out a wild wyrm or wyvern out of the blue. Also props to Sarah for giving us the ibs mascot that is Feyre.
I am going to be fully honest, I think Rosaceli bugged me to read ACOTAR for about a year before I read it. Like Ceilidh, I hadn't been reading for a while at that point. But I gave ACOTAR a chance, and it was very easy to fall in love with the world that was built and especially with the characters she creates. It's a beautiful setting and it's very easy to use as an escape. Her plots are well crafted, and her lore always leaves you wanting more. It's easy to dig into, and I truly believe there's something for everyone in the Maasverse. So thank you, Sarah, for giving us a peek into your mind. It seems like it's a pretty cool place to be.
