Being an emissary only suited those, who could travel without any problems. Many thought that traveling was the easiest part, but it definitely wasn't. Anyone could be taught to become a diplomat, but if one cannot travel well, they might as well have cursed their life for eternity.
Thankfully, I wasn't one of those. I had no seasickness to conquer, no crankiness to subdue (I have enough self realization that I am always cranky), no tiredness to get over with. Lucky, I know.
But of course, there is always more playing in the fields. Finding a place is hard, finding food to eat is hard, finding a gem in the city full of boring things is hard. I have gone and talked to the locals and the royals, and maybe my experience can help you next time you go travel.
I don't help often, so I'd suggest taking up the offer.
Night Court has two courts, the court of nightmares and the court of dreams. As it may be incurred, people prefer to travel to the latter, and Velaris is a nice place to go to. In fact, it was rated to be the most popular tourist place in the last decade.
Velaris is built like a shell of undulating steep mountains, bordered by a wide river - the River Sidra - and meanders towards the vast expanse of water, the sea. On the northern edge of Velaris, near the river bending, rose flat hills of red stone, and the city was surrounded by different mountains on the other side of the river. The buildings are made of white and red stones, with green copper roofs. Multiple restaurants and shops are lined up in the markets, not to mention the Rainbow of Velaris is a famed site to see.
From being a hidden city to the realm's favorite holiday place, Velaris was quick to assist the incoming traffic, welcoming it with great vigor. And so, finding an accommodation or places to visit isn't that hard.
There are many, many places to go to in Velaris. The Sidra Riverbank, the Rainbows of Velaris theaters and amphitheaters, the House of the Wind... but why go to the usual, crowded places when you can go in the depths of the city and get a better experience?
If you can, do travel to the northern mountains of the city. Not the Illyrian ones, no, but the ones that oversee the Sidra River. With an hour of rowing to the other side, you can reach the mountains and have a amazing trekking experience. And of course, the view from the top is always the best.
The cliffs are another point of interest, and few are already aware of them! Cliff diving is a popular exercise among the locals, especially the Illyrians who aren't much affected by the cold water. If you can handle the ice like temperatures, then this would be perfect for you.
In the Palace of Hoof and Leaf, if you ever come across a board with "Livia's Livery", do not question anything and go inside. I swear you shall not disappoint it. This place has every single famed dresses that the Queens and Kings, High Ladies and Lords, as well as popular artists have wore during their public appearance. You can try them on, rent them, buy them. It's the best place to get your mate a mating gift!
As mentioned, Velaris is highly receptive of the tourists, and many living areas have popped up over time. The locals here offer their own rooms for rent for as low as 650 gold coins a day, which includes best local breakfast and a tour guide+ to accompany you on your journey.
If you have no budget (and an aversion to thousand stairs), the House of Wind also lets you rent a room for around 4000 gold coins. I mean, you get a living house, premium security with no winnowing and large stairs, and someone with wings who can drop you to the balcony. It's a sweet deal.
People will direct you to the Palace of Bone and Salt for the best food in the entire city, and that is correct. The Rita's aren't famous in the whole realm for nothing. The options for a vegetarian are vast in here, and for those who don't eat the green stuff, maybe try some while you are here? You wouldn't be disappointed.
That would be all for the day! I hope I have helped you out in gaining the best experience in traveling.
