A Class And A Half

Hello! Welcome to the blog A Class And A Half. This blog will be taking a closer look into the point of view that the Council Members have. Who are they? Well, they are the people you'll spot around site, sporting the lovely green colour! Not the Queen's; a brighter green than that! They teach the classes, ranging from Healing and Herbology to Hand to Hand Combat. Interested? You should be, keep reading!

And up today is Miss Rae Yang, who teaches Hand To Hand Combat!

Thoughts on having to teach?

"Good thing you asked, I was originally not the most enthusiastic about this but over time, I found that sometimes, watching them struggle is quite funny. Oh but of course, I also highly enjoy this job and the wild, slightly risky, lessons are a blast. It's entertaining for me, and possibly also for the students as well. They did come here to seek a good education did they not? What's the fun in classes that teach you the same things in the same ways? Better to teach by showing them, and allowing them to experience it themselves than just by talking, no?"

What is your class?

"My class is simply what it's called, hand to hand combat. From how to punch, how to kick to complex maneuvers such as joint locks, and the famous eye gouge, everything you need to know to hold your own in a fight."

What is this course like?

"My course starts for the third year students, so naturally, it'll be very strict from the very beginning. I have high expectations of the students since they've all been through two years of the classes taught by the other councilors here. First year of hand to hand combat will be focused on the basics, training your strength, endurance, stamina, speed, and basic knowledge of combat. Of course, it only gets harder after the first year. Second year will be revolving around defense, third will be concerning offense, fourth will be structured around martial arts, and fifth will be regarding hand to hand melee weapons."

What's the best part?

"From what I've heard and my own opinion, the best part of this class is undoubtfully the games. I say that but it's more accurately tests. Every year, there will be at least one test, it will be to measure your ranking amongst the students of the same year as you are. Only one can win, and the rest are all placed according to the order in which they lost. The games are all moderately –well, extremely physical, and just because of that reason, it's exciting and thrilling for the students."

What's the worst part?

"Ah, that would be the harsh training, especially within the first year. See, in short, the first year is to get the students fit and ready for further training, but time is limited and the basic training can't take forever. So the change must be fast, which is why the first year and particularly the first few lessons are often the most tiresome. Students have repetitively complained about the training schedule and how early it is, but in actuality, morning training has many benefits including building the students' self discipline."
